In construction scenarios, flat wire ropes need to withstand high-frequency and high-strength tensile forces, while facing complex environmental challenges such as wear, high temperature, and humidity. When selecting a flat wire rope that is suitable for material properties, it is important to focus on the following six core dimensions:
1、 Ultra high strength and tensile properties
Core requirements
In construction, it is commonly used for lifting steel bars, fixing scaffolding, and other scenarios, requiring a tensile force of 500-1000kg. Ordinary civilian flat wire ropes (with a breaking force of less than 300kg) are prone to breakage and cause safety accidents.
Key indicators:
Breaking strength: ≥ 800N (corresponding to products with a diameter of 8-12mm), can be tested according to GB/T 8821 "Determination of breaking strength and elongation at break of plastic ropes" standard.
Elongation rate: When subjected to maximum tensile force, the elongation rate should be ≤ 15% to avoid excessive deformation and load shedding.
Material*
Polyethylene (PE) composite weaving: The tensile strength is more than 30% higher than ordinary PP material. If PE flat wire rope reinforced with glass fiber is added, the breaking strength can reach 1200N.
Multi layer weaving process: using 16 or 24 strands weaving (not single or 8 strands), with fibers arranged in a staggered manner per strand to disperse stress concentration points.
2、 Extreme environmental tolerance
1. High temperature resistance performance
The construction site may come into contact with welding sparks (temperature>1000 ℃), steam pipelines (>80 ℃), ordinary PP materials (melting point 160-170 ℃) are prone to melting, and PE materials (melting point 120-130 ℃) are also not resistant to high temperatures.
Solution:
Choose modified polypropylene (with added flame retardants and high-temperature resistant fillers) that can withstand short-term high temperatures of 200 ℃, such as Dow Chemical's FR1700 series.
Outer layer covered with fiberglass fireproof layer, such as 3M ™ Scotchcast ™ Fireproof flat wire rope can withstand 30 minutes of open flame burning.
2. Moisture resistance and corrosion resistance
In scenarios such as concrete pouring and construction in chemical areas, the rope body is prone to come into contact with cement slurry (strongly alkaline), oil stains, or seawater.
Material properties:
Polyethylene (PE): chemically more stable than PP, resistant to acid and alkali corrosion, suitable for humid environments.
Stainless steel wire composite flat wire rope: outer layer woven with PE, inner wrapped with 304 stainless steel wire, corrosion resistance increased by 5 times, suitable for marine engineering.
3、 High wear resistance and cutting resistance
Construction pain points
During the lifting process, the friction between the flat wire rope and the edges of the steel bars and pipes can easily cause a "cutting effect", leading to local fractures.
Key design:
Surface texture treatment: The surface of the rope body is treated with diamond shaped embossing or sanding to increase friction with heavy objects and reduce sliding wear.
Anti cutting layer: Internally embedded with aramid fiber (Kevlar), such as DuPont ™ K29 fiber can withstand scratching from sharp objects and increase its wear life by 2-3 times.
4、 Anti aging and weather resistance
Long term outdoor exposure risk
The construction period is usually 6-24 months, and the flat wire rope needs to maintain stable performance under ultraviolet radiation, rain and snow, and temperature differences (-30 ℃ to 50 ℃).
Material technology:
Dual resistance formula: adding UV absorbers (such as benzotriazoles) and antioxidants (such as hindered phenols), passing a 1000 hour xenon lamp aging test (equivalent to 2 years of outdoor exposure), with a fracture strength retention rate of ≥ 85%.
Black flat wire rope *: The black pigment contains carbon black, which naturally has UV resistance and is 50% more resistant to aging than white rope.
5、 Flexibility and operational convenience
Construction operation requirements
Frequent knotting and threading of pulleys are required, and a hard rope body (such as a pure steel wire core) will increase the difficulty of operation and reduce efficiency.
Ideal characteristics:
Small bending radius: A flat wire rope with a diameter of 10mm, with a minimum bending radius of ≤ 50mm, can easily bypass conventional lifting hooks.
Self lubricating surface: treated with silicone coating, reducing friction by 30% when knotting, and can be operated with one hand.
